Unbelievably, my Addison is one. I spent several months picking up props and building on the idea of what the session would look like. I was able to find the chevron blanket at a local thrift store, and the ideas just grew from there. Being my own child, I was happy to have several days to complete the birthday cake smash session. The first setup was at a local park in Oceanside, and we shot in spurts whenever the sun was covered by the clouds. The second set of photos were taken on our family’s property at sunset. It’s such a blessing for our kids to grow up here, and the family even has a farm and farm stand called Couple Berry Farms, for which I’ve been working on weekly recipe and fresh produce photographs.
For the last session, we used a sugar-free, grain-free recipe that wouldn’t upset baby’s tummy, and shot between the richly colorful salad rows and at the base of a fig tree that was brought from San Gabriel to the land by my great-great grandparents. I’m proud for my babies to be able to plant their own roots in such rich family history.
